Geriatric Care
Geriatric care is concerned with facilitating care for the elderly. It does not just involve placing senior community members in a health facility. What it entails, first, is a geriatric assessment. From the assessment, the appropriate geriatric care can then be recommended.
Those who are going into geriatric care needs to have a full assessment with regards to their physical, mental and psychosocial health. This is to determine the type of care plan that they will need. Is the individual still suited for independent living or are there areas of personal care and daily living activities where they need to be assisted?
Assessments will also cover areas where future problems may present themselves.
Geriatric care and the assessment will be especially helpful when the candidate has problems such as memory loss or dementia. The assessment is performed by a group of competent staff from a variety of fields. They can include nurses, physical therapists, social workers, dieticians and psychologists.
What is more important is that possible resources are pinpointed to ensure that interventions and care provided for can be covered by the resources available to the candidate and to his or her family. It is important to check the fees as well as the payment schedules during each stage of the care plan.
